The ACT is more straightforward, but extremely fast.

Less complex than the SAT, but with way less time.

ACT 1

Sections

English

75 questions - 45 mins

Around 70% of this section is basic grammar, including punctuation, but the remaining 30% are rhetorical skills questions about logic and syntax.

The best way to prepare for this section is to review grammar rules and build an understanding of the question types. Many don't pay attention to the context and struggle with the logic questions.

Math

60 questions - 60 mins

A combination of Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Pretty evenly split (except for Trigonometry, which is low), but the problems will go in order of increasing difficulty.

The best way to prepare for this section is to review math fundamentals and learn to recognize when to use certain strategies and methods.

Reading

40 questions - 35 mins

Consists of 4 reading comprehension passages followed by 10 questions each. This section is very quick as most students struggle with timing.

The best way to prepare for this is to get used to the section, especially the questions. The answer choices can be manipulative, so it's critical to go through them carefully.

Science

40 questions - 35 mins

One of the most manipulative sections. This section contains very few questions about actual science - most of the questions are about data from the charts and graphs.

For this section, it's important to focus on the data they present. Usually, you don't need to read much out of the text of the passage. You don't need to study science concepts for this.
